Mystery of Time

Those who practiced this Mystery were called Diviners and they were the rarest of all the magi, there being only a few born each year in the entire population with this gift. While some of their knowledge survives with the catalysts -- in particular the ability to foresee whether or not the union of two people will be fruitful -- the majority of the Diviners' powers perished with their passing during the Iron Wars. Today, if there are any on Thimhallan who can foretell the future or look back into the past, they hide themselves well.

History

Despite being few in number, the Diviners were powerful in the forging of the new world. This, perhaps, is what led to their downfall.

Possessing the ability to see forward in time as well as backward, the Diviners were said to be closest to seeing the Mind of the Almin. They did not see the future as one long path stretching out before mankind, but as a series of paths. Using their knowledge of the paths, they were able to recommend the correct path for man to walk. Whether man chose to walk it was up to him.

The Diviners warned against the separation of the factions that they saw must lead, eventually, to the Iron Wars. Few paid heed to their words, or, if they did, they maintained that they alone knew the right way to save the world.

Since the Diviners were so few in number, it is not surprising that their Mystery was completely wiped out during the wars. A child of that Mystery must have a Diviner for a parent, and so it is generally believed that no children with this talent have been born since.
