Mystery of Spirit

--- History --- Game Statistics --- Piercing the Veil ---

This Mystery, too, perished during the Iron Wars, although under much more sinister circumstances than that of the Diviners. Those of the Mystery of Spirit were responsible for communication with the realms beyond the mortal boundary. They were divided into three classes:

Aluava (Necromancers) These dealt with communicating directly with those who had passed before.

Cheuava (Enchanters) Those responsible for the spiritual health and well-being of the dead as it effected the living.

Omueva (Theurgists) Direct intervention with the Almin was the province of the Theurgists.

History

Living on two planes at the same time, the Necromancers (as they were generally known) were able to bring the living and the dead into close touch. They could ease troubled spirits, help assuage the grief of the living by maintaining contact with those who died, and help the dead keep in touch with their survivors. Through the Necromancer, mankind could easily come to terms with his own mortality.

The Necromancers were also able to provide glimpses into the future of individuals as it came to be known by their ancestors, who would then communicate this through the Necromancers. Although not as accurate a vision of the future as that obtained by the Diviners, this tended to be much more personal in nature and so was very popular.

Because of this popularity, the Necromancers began to wield great power over not only the general populace but over their rulers as well. No one viewed this with less liking than the Church, who saw its own influence beginning to wane in consequence.

Whether the Church, with the Duuk-tsarith as their instrument, had a hand in removing the Necromancers from the world is not known. Certainly it was greatly to the Church's benefit that the Spirit Shapers disappeared.
